Stakeholder Management Knowledge Area

The point of stakeholder management is to identify those that could impact or be impacted by the project, assess how much impact they will have, and then come up with strategies to manage them as efficiently as possible.

To successfully deliver a project, you must know the expectations and interests of every stakeholder. Stakeholder management entails managing the expectations of anyone who has an interest in a project, will be affected by it, or shares an opinion. You know intuitively that a rational, plan-based approach has become the norm for this area of knowledge and it is the subject.

There are four processes covered by this knowledge area:
  • Identify Stakeholders Process
  • Plan Stakeholder Engagement Process
  • Manage Stakeholder Engagement Process
  • Monitor Stakeholder Engagement Process

Monitor stakeholder engagement process entails monitoring the status of stakeholder relationships, as well as adapting and changing the stakeholder engagement strategies and plans as needed. The key benefit of this process is that it maintains or increases the efficiency and effectiveness of stakeholder engagement activities as the project evolves and its environment changes.

Stakeholder Performance Domain

The stakeholder performance domain is one of the 8 project performance domains given by PMBOK 7.  Stakeholders play an integral role in any project, both internally and externally. In order to engage all stakeholders, one must identify them both internally and externally, and give due consideration to them in all activities and functions of the project.

Sequence Activities Process
