Collect Requirements Process

In this stage of the process, it is important to be sure to collect the requirements from everyone with stakes in the project in order to fulfill their objectives. Documentation of this kind is very important because it serves as a guide for establishing what should and shouldn't be done during the project. First of all requirements elicitation takes place.

In order to form any meaningful judgments about a project before construction begins, PMBOK recommends that all the requirements need to be discussed in advance.

The Collect Requirements process entails gathering up all the project's various requirements from each of the many stakeholder groups.  Most projects have a greater number of stakeholders than you might think.  There are likely many governmental regulations and related entities that are needed before a new project can get the go-ahead.  Thus, stakeholder discussion should occur right away to identify all requirements at the start of a project.
